Class Descriptions
Tech 6:
We will learn basic woodworking by using hand tools and power tools to construct projects that will be assembled and finished. Projects will incorporate a variety of skills. We will also explore Technology through flight and aviation.
Tech 7:
We will learn to use hand tools and power tools to construct projects. We will also use Tech Modules to explore further topics in Technology and Industry.
8th Grade Elective Courses offered in the Shop:
Drafting
This course covers basic techniques used to complete the drawings that are used by engineers and designers to communicate information to others. Instruction will focus on neatness, accuracy, and precision. Topics include lettering, creating lines, sketching, drawing an object from different viewpoints, isometrics, detailing a drawing, and adding dimensions.
Power and Energy
Students will learn about creating, storing, measuring, and using power and energy. Working in teams, students learn about small engines, their components, and how to maintain them. Each team will dismantle and rebuild a small engine. Safety, organization, and processes will be emphasized.
Transportation
Students will be introduced to the many modes of transportation. This course explores the evolution of an automobile, from thumbnail and rough sketching to prototype construction and final production. The class project is the construction of a Co2 powered dragster. Post-production testing and racing will be used to evaluate the performance of the cars. Safety, Craftsmanship, and Precision will be emphasized.
Woods
In this hands-on class, students will learn the basics of working with tools to create wood projects. Students will have the opportunity to complete their own project that reflects their learning. Safety, Craftsmanship, and Effort are emphasized in this class.
